Telit offers LTE Cat M1 with Verizon certification; upgrades from 2G/3G connections, new use cases in IoT segments

Telit has announced that its module ME910C1-NV is the initial LTE Category M1 (Cat M1) module based on Qualcomm Technologies’ MDM9206 global multimode modem to receive Verizon certification for operation on America’s largest, most reliable 4G LTE network. IoT integrators are now able to take advantage of the performance and longevity of Verizon’s new LTE Cat M1 network for the IoT.

Qualcomm Technologies’ global multimode LTE Cat M1/NB1 modems are fundamental to the network rollout planned by Verizon, and Telit has been working closely with both companies to ensure the timely availability of its module.

The MDM9206 modem and Telit ME910C1-NV will natively support Verizon’s ThingSpace platform, the operator’s Web-based developer platform designed to accelerate a digital ecosystem of smart devices for the IoT segment. The ME910C1-NV also features optional quad-constellation GNSS support and optimized power consumption capabilities.

The ME910C1-NV module is a member of Telit’s xE910 line and can be applied as a drop-in replacement in existing devices based on the family’s modules for 2G, 3G and the various categories of LTE. With the company’s design-once-use-anywhere philosophy, developers can cut costs and development time by simply designing around the xE910 LGA common form factor, giving them the freedom to deploy technologies ideal for the application’s environment.

Industries that demand lower costs, security and extended product lifecycles now have more options with the Telit ME910C1-NV. The combination of LTE Cat M1 technology with the built-in feature set of the ME910C1-NV makes this module an ideal solution for new applications in vertical segments such as smart energy and metering, asset tracking, retail point of sale, security and surveillance, industrial control and automation, smart home, and smart buildings.

“It’s rewarding to reach a new milestone in our working relationship with Qualcomm Technologies and Verizon – one where all companies are committed to stay at the forefront of advancing the IoT,” said Manish Watwani, Vice President Global Product Marketing, Telit. “As the first Verizon-certified LTE Cat M1 module supplier to offer the industry-leading MDM9206 LTE modem from Qualcomm Technologies, Telit looks forward to allowing IoT devices and applications to benefit from the cost-effectiveness, coverage, and the advanced security capabilities of LTE Cat M1.”

This generation of Telit Cat M and NBIoT modules support power saving mode and extended discontinuous reception, which together allow the module to wake up periodically, exchange small amounts of data with the network and return to sleep, providing for years of battery life.

It also includes LTE release 13 Cat M and Cat NB portfolio; reliable and long-term available LPWA with 3GPP/NB standard; enhanced in-structure reach from improved radio link propagation characteristics; NBIoT of over ten years battery life from extreme low-power mode for latency-tolerant applications; and optional on-board embedded universal integrated circuit card (eUICC).
