Wind River offers highest levels of certification evidence for critical infrastructure

Wind River, vendor of IoT software for critical infrastructure, announced on Monday release of a full suite of automotive, avionics and industrial safety certification evidence for the latest version of VxWorksCert Edition. The real-time operating system (RTOS) for safety-critical applications is designed and developed to the highest achievable safety levels accepted by worldwide certification authorities.

VxWorks solutions have been used in more than 550 safety certification programs by more than 350 customers across industries. This recent suite of certification evidence builds on Wind River’s experience in safety certification software products, and demonstrates its commitment to safe, secure and reliable solutions.

In addition to VxWorks Cert Edition, the Wind River safety portfolio includes the VxWorks 653 integrated modular avionics (IMA) platform.

Like the RTOS itself, the commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) evidence is designed for reuse and portability with long-term cost-of-ownership benefits for safety-critical projects, including those targeting compliance to various standards, including automotive: ISO 26262 Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) D backed by certificates issued by independently accredited certification authority TÜV SÜD; avionics: DO-178C Design Assurance Level (DAL) A; and industrial: IEC 61508 Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 3 backed by certificates issued by independently accredited certification authority TÜV SÜD.

VxWorks Cert Platform includes Wind River Workbench development suite, which is an Eclipse-based collection of tools designed to accelerate time-to- market for developers building devices with VxWorks real-time operating systems.

From hardware and board initialization to application development, Workbench offers deep capability across the development process in a single integrated environment, with complete platform integration, including tools for debugging, code analysis, and test. Based on the open Eclipse framework, Workbench can be extended through in-house, third-party, open source, and commercial plug-ins.

In addition to the Workbench Eclipse-based environment, VxWorks Cert Platform provides a full-featured command-line build system and debugging tools for developers who prefer this type of environment. These command-line tools can be integrated into a customized build system. The Workbench development environment helps reduce development costs and manage code complexity, eases tool integration, and enables standardization on a common development foundation across the enterprise.
