Waterfall Security now supports Unidirectional CloudConnect for GE Predix The Industrial Internet platform

Waterfall Security Solutions, vendor of cybersecurity technologies for critical infrastructure and industrial control systems, announced Tuesday support of its Unidirectional CloudConnect for GE Predix The Industrial Internet Platform, enabling customers to securely connect their industrial sites with cloud services.

In addition, Waterfall’s Unidirectional CloudConnect provides real-time translation of industrial systems, formats, and protocols to fit GE Predix’s cloud.

The Unidirectional CloudConnect uses Waterfall’s Unidirectional Gateway technology that physically prevents cyberattacks from any external network, including the Internet and any cloud, from entering an industrial network. The technology creates an impassable, physical barrier to external online attacks, while continuously populating cloud systems with real-time data from protected control systems and devices.

In the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) ecosystem, industrial plant assets and devices generate data that is critical to maintaining safe and reliable operations. As the IIoT is driven by business benefits and dramatic efficiency improvements, such as predictive maintenance, many industrial customers are considering connecting to industrial clouds, notably GE’s Predix. However, concerns for cybersecurity due to increased attack surfaces and the lack of compatibility between cloud platforms and industrial systems significantly inhibit cloud adoption.

To facilitate rapid IIoT adoption into GE’s Predix Cloud, Waterfall Security has added support of its Unidirectional CloudConnect to enable GE Predix developers to gather data securely from various and SCADA protocols and data from OT systems, followed by real-time translation of all of them into the GE Predix cloud protocol.

“Integration between Unidirectional CloudConnect and GE Predix was a natural evolution of Waterfall’s vision in enabling a safer industrial environment,” said Lior Frenkel, CEO and co-founder, Waterfall Security Solutions. “Powered by our patented unidirectional technology, our Unidirectional CloudConnect overcomes the two major challenges in the IIOT ecosystem; cybersecurity and interoperability with real-time translation from industrial protocol language to cloud IT language.”

Waterfall launched in November its Waterfall BlackBox, developed to maintain the integrity of log repositories in the event of a cyber attack. Based on Waterfall’s patented unidirectional technology, the Waterfall BlackBox creates a physical barrier between networks and logged data, so that stored logs become inaccessible to attackers who are trying to cover their tracks.

Unidirectional Gateway products were pioneered and patented by Waterfall Security, and have been deployed worldwide since 2007. The hardware-enforced Unidirectional Security Gateway product family is a revolutionary alternative to firewalls, protecting the safety and reliability of industrial systems in ways that firewalls simply cannot match.
