Smart Card Alliance unveils single source for IoT security, privacy information hub at IoTSecurityConnection.com

The Smart Card Alliance announced Wednesday new content portal, IoTSecurityConnection.com, as part of its expanded focus to provide educational resources and guidance for implementing secure Internet of Things (IoT) architectures using embedded security and privacy technology.

The portal features relevant news, resources, expert commentary and thought leadership on the security and privacy of IoT for technology and service providers, IT and security experts, integrators, consultants and IoT enthusiasts. Content on IoTSecurityConnection.com includes commentary on relevant industry news and articles from experts, thought leaders and authorities on IoT security and privacy; original content from the Smart Card Alliance on relevant industry news; resources developed by the Smart Card Alliance’s Internet of Things Security Council; apart from white papers, guides, specifications, FAQs, infographics, articles and other materials focusing on IoT security and privacy.

The Smart Card Alliance Industry Councils are led by members, with deliverables developed by member volunteers. The Councils have made significant contributions to the smart card industry through publishing education and outreach material for different markets, holding educational events, webinars and workshops on key topics, responding to issues in the media, developing industry comments and positions on key government initiatives, and establishing relationships with other key industry groups.

Councils have been created to foster increased industry collaboration within a specified industry or market segment and produce tangible results, speeding smart card adoption and industry growth. Groups collaborate on specific deliverables, including reports, briefings and educational material.

The resource is part of the Smart Card Alliance’s recent announcement to expand its focus to securing the IoT ecosystem. Other recent initiatives in this market include the Alliance’s Internet of Things Security Council and the Security of Things 2016 conference.

The Internet of Things Security Council develops and promotes best practices and provides educational resources on implementing secure IoT architectures using embedded security and privacy technology. The Council is interested in new organizations with an interest in IoT and security to join as members.

With the number of connected devices in the market expected to reach 21 billion by the year 2020, the industry is at a critical turning point where there is a need to ensure that security is a top priority in Internet of Things implementations. As an organization with a history of bringing industries together to move technologies forward, the Smart Card Alliance is taking the initiative to bring the same positive impact to IoT to address top-of-mind IoT security and privacy concerns.

As part of this effort, the Alliance formed the Internet of Things Security Council, which provides a single forum where all industry stakeholders can network, share implementation experiences, and discuss applications and security approaches, as well as provide best practices and education to the industry to promote security and privacy.

The council focuses on IoT markets where security, safety and privacy are key requirements, and leverages the expertise and knowledge gained from implementing embedded security technology across other industries to provide practical guidance for secure IoT implementations.

The Alliance’s Security of Things conference will provide a deep dive into security and privacy in IoT, and will feature experts from both the IoT and security industries to analyze the impact embedded security technology is expected to have on the market. The Alliance is the single industry voice for smart cards, leading industry discussion on the impact and value of smart cards in the U.S. and Latin America.
