Silicon Labs, supplier of silicon, software and solutions for a more connected world, announced Monday acquisition of Zentri, a vendor of low-power, cloud-connected Wi-Fi technologies for the Internet of Things (IoT).
Zentri helps customers globally securely connect and manage their products across a range of industrial, commercial and consumer applications. The company delivers secure, connected solutions for the IoT, transforming the way companies develop secure mobile and cloud-connected products.
By eliminating the need for wireless design expertise and providing a library of cloud-connected applications, Zentri allows IoT device makers to focus on differentiating their products and speeding time to market.
Leveraging Zentri’s hardware, software, APIs and tools, companies can rapidly develop and deliver highly secure and robust products to market in a matter of weeks. Zentri enables, among other things, secure product authentication, seamless over-the-air (OTA) software updates, remote product diagnosis and analytics.
Zentri launched in May Spectre, its cloud connected Wi-Fi module in the sub-five dollar (< $5 USD) price category complete with full device manageability. Spectre removes the painful trade-off between functionality, price and product real estate allowing product manufacturers to deliver an ideal connected product at the lowest price point.
Spectre, a Wi-Fi module and size of only 12 x 11 x 1.8mm, has been powered by ZentriOS, a leading secure IoT operating system that already powers a wide range of products from Zentri, Avnet, NXP, Broadcom/Cypress, and ST.
Spectre is pre-certified, speeding up product design and ensuring successful deployments. Using ZentriOS, Spectre customers design connected products in weeks with the unique ability to use the same ZentriOS foundation across all product lines, regardless of hardware, and securely manage those products with cloud services.
Spectre is ideal for simple end devices used in any industrial, commercial, or consumer use case such as environmental or energy monitoring and appliance control. Data-in-motion is secure with over-the-air wireless updates that allow individual firmware bundles to be delivered to any individual, or group of deployed products.
All data can be remotely accessed with Zentri Cloud Services to manage, update, and analyze every deployed IoT device in the product portfolio from within Zentri or as a connector to other cloud providers.
“Silicon Labs is proud to join forces with Zentri,” said Tyson Tuttle, CEO of Silicon Labs. “This acquisition builds upon our strategy to deliver comprehensive, multiprotocol silicon and software solutions to securely connect IoT products to the cloud. Zentri’s Wi-Fi expertise, software and tools will extend our multiprotocol connectivity portfolio to a wider range of power-sensitive IoT end node applications.”
