Semtech LoRa wireless RF technology included for Internet of Things applications on LoRaWAN networks

Semtech announced Thursday that its LoRa Wireless RF technology is featured in a new starter kit developed by MultiTech. The MultiTech MultiConnect Conduit Starter Kit for LoRa technology aims to simplify the development of Internet of Things (IoT) applications by providing the components necessary to build and connect a LoRa-based IoT proof of concept (PoC) to a low power, wide area network (LPWAN).

Included in the kit are pre-configured and programmable MultiConnect Conduit gateway featuring LoRa, a MultiConnect mDot LoRaWAN RF sensor module certified by the LoRa Alliance, and cloud connectors to help speed up the development of IoT PoCs for a wide range of applications, including smart city, building, agriculture, industrial, utility and healthcare.

As announced last October, both the MultiTech gateway and sensor module are embedded with Semtech LoRa technology, providing a configurable, manageable and scalable solution for IoT applications.

Semtech and MultiTech are both members of the LoRa Alliance, a group of over 300 companies committed to driving and enhancing the LoRaWAN specification to ensure interoperability and scalability of LPWANs and IoT applications. Through its work with member companies and IoT industry groups, the LoRa Alliance is making LoRaWAN the standard for LPWANs focused on low power, long-range IoT applications. Currently, there are LoRaWAN public and private networks in more than 50 countries worldwide.

The MultiConnect Conduit Starter Kit is designed to allow users to obtain sensor information and display it in the cloud within minutes of opening the box. The starter kit features the MultiConnect Conduit, a configurable, manageable, and scalable cellular communications gateway for industrial IoT applications.

MultiTech decreases the hassle and complexity needed to properly integrate the different elements of any LoRa IoT idea such as sensors, gateways, endpoints, LAN and WAN communications and cloud integration, and get them working together in a functioning LoRa application.  All major components of the MultiConnect Conduit Starter Kit are pre-configured for use with the Conduit platform and select MultiTech cloud platforms and only require simple actions to finish set-up.

“We are committed to helping our customers simplify the IoT application development process so that they can bring their products to market faster,” said Daniel Quant, Vice President, Product Management and Strategic Marketing at MultiTech. “By working together with Semtech, we’ve created a great LoRa starter kit that puts all the tools an IoT developer would need into one easy to use kit.”

“MultiTech has done a great job putting together their LoRa-based IoT starter kit,” said Mike Wong, Vice President of Marketing and Applications for Semtech’s Wireless and Sensing Product Group. “The creation of LoRa-based starter kits from LoRa Alliance members like MultiTech go a long way in simplifying the IoT development process. They also help encourage the adoption of LoRaWAN-based IoT solutions around the globe.”
