Quectel expands consumer electronics line with latest IoT modules that help broaden adoption

Quectel Wireless Solutions, supplier of Internet of Things (IoT) modules, showcased this week its broad module portfolio covering 5G, C-V2X, AI and NB-IoT modules at CES Asia this week.

5G has arrived as China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has officially issued commercial 5G licenses to China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom and China Broadcasting Network Corp on June 6. Quectel has been working closely with global ecosystem partners and will be able to provide commercial 5G modules by the end of this year.

At present, Quectel industrial-grade 5G modules include standard 5G NR modules RG500Q/RG510Q in LGA form factor and RM500Q/RM510Q in M.2 form factor, which could be used in fixed wireless access, laptop, mobile hotspot devices, public security and more.

As a professional IoT technology developer and cellular module supplier, Quectel is able to provide one-stop service for IoT cellular modules. Quectel products have been applied in IoT/M2M fields including smart payment, telematics and transport, smart energy, smart city, security, wireless gateway, industry, healthcare, agriculture and environment monitoring.

Facial recognition is a new favorite in the fast-growing consumer electronics market. Retailing, automotive and other fields are increasingly adopting AI technology to recognize faces and voices to improve safety and efficiency. By integrating AI capability, Quectel’s SC600T and SC66 are ideal for AIoT applications such as new retailing, intelligent vehicles, smart home appliance and surveillance, etc.

During the show, Quectel demonstrated the Proactive Security Solution for Intelligent Driving. Leveraging LTE Cat 6 smart module SC600T, the solution supports facial recognition, behavior monitoring and warnings to reduce dangers and enhance driving safety.

Internet of Vehicles is another critical 5G application. Quectel has planned automotive grade 5G+C-V2X module AG550Q, which supports sub-6GHz and integrates C-V2X and GNSS capabilities.

“IoV over 5G network is essential for autonomous driving. To enhance the driving safety, unmanned vehicles ask for low latency, high reliability and high throughput capacity to shorten the time it takes to transmit road traffic information to the control platform for decision making. 5G is the very technology that can fulfill the above requirements,” said Min Wang, Automotive Product Director, Quectel.

At the show, Quectel also demonstrated C-V2X Onboard Unit and Roadside Unit which were developed by iSMARTWAYS Technology based on Quectel automotive grade C-V2X module AG15. The two smart devices support Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and V2X, which enable vehicles, roadside facilities and environments to communicate with each other hence ensure traffic safety and efficiency. Both devices have completed field tests on public road in China.

Recently, Quectel AG15 has been used by many Tier 1 suppliers and vehicle manufacturers to develop C-V2X enabled vehicle device and roadside device. By providing stable and reliable connectivity, AG15 is suitable for ADAS, safety driving, autonomous driving and smart traffic system.
