Qihoo 360 adopts u-blox GNSS technology for its Kids Guard 3S child tracking watch

Qihoo 360, a Chinese-based vendor of mobile security, announced a third generation of child tracking watch, developed again in collaboration with u‑blox, a provider of wireless and positioning modules and chips.

Kids Guard 3S, a personal tracker in a tiny and colourful watch format, is designed to monitor the whereabouts of children. The updated watch has multiple functions, including real time location, integrated Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, two‑side call, single‑side monitoring, voice intercom, and recording. Its positioning accuracy is 5 meters outdoors and 20 meters indoors. Its 520 mAh Gel Polymer Lithium battery can last up to five days on standby mode.

u‑blox solutions enable people, vehicles and machines to locate their exact position and communicate wirelessly over cellular and short range networks. With a portfolio of chips, modules and software solutions, u‑blox is ideally positioned to empower OEMs to develop solutions for the Internet of Things. With headquarters in Thalwil, Switzerland, u‑blox is globally present with offices in Europe, Asia and the USA.

The high performance tracking offering delivers information which can reassure parents worried by their child’s whereabouts, as child abduction is remains an ever-growing a serious concern in China. u‑blox has already teamed with other brands of children watches in China, featuring its combination of wireless communication and GNSS positioning technologies.

Embedded in the Kids Guard 3S is the u‑blox UBX‑G7020‑CT chip, which is a multi-GNSS chip that supports GPS, GLONASS, QZSS and SBAS, offering exceptional sensitivity and acquisition times. u-blox 7 features ultra low power consumption, based on single die architecture and enhanced software algorithms, making the UBX-G7020 an ideal power consumption for GLONASS reception.

The extended voltage supply range and 1.8 V and 3.0 V I/O compliance supports a variety of user applications. Using RF-architecture and interference suppression using active continuous wave detection ensure maximum performance even in GNSS-hostile environments.

The UBX-G7020 is available in choice of miniature WL-CSP and QFN packages and features an ultra small solution footprint of 30 mm2. The built-in LNA, LDOs and DC/DC converter, and on-chip ROM mean that small possible external BOM is required, thereby lowering the total cost of ownership.
