OnAsset strengthens their partnership with Unilode; signs largest cargo IoT contract in aviation sector

OnAsset Intelligence announced this week one of its largest ULD digitization contract in the airline industry with Unilode Aviation Solutions, provider of ULD management, maintenance and repair services. Unit load device (ULD) is a pallet or container used to load luggage, freight, and mail on wide-body aircraft and specific narrow-body aircraft. It allows a large quantity of cargo to be bundled into a single unit.

OnAsset provides a full suite of shipment and piece-level cargo tracking solutions, offering airlines, shippers and logistics providers a one-stop-shop for digital enablement. OnAsset’s products are in use globally in over 160 countries, offering complete supply chain visibility for all modes of transportation including land, sea and air.

Headquartered in Irving, Texas, OnAsset is a global vendor of airborne asset tracking services. It manufactures wireless devices that monitor all modes of transport including land, sea and air. Products and services include SENTRY and Sentinel wireless hardware, the Vision and OAInsight Monitoring Platforms, and enterprise API. Its key product, SENTRY FlightSafe, is approved by commercial and cargo operators across the globe.

Each SENTRY “parent” device becomes a gateway for any Sentinel “children” in its vicinity.  Automatically rolling up the data from a multitude of Sentinel, it captures and transmits data from itself and all surrounding Sentinels to enable a huge variety of applications.

Sentinel tags are automatically read by any SENTRY 500 in their vicinity. They automatically become sensor “children” to any SENTRY 500 “parent” within their transmission radius. The SENTRY 500 then sends the data of all nearby Sentinels to our server so it can be accessed via our Enterprise API, apps and any variety of customer applications.

“We are excited to be part of this step change in the industry. Building upon our longstanding history of innovation in leading-edge aviation-compliant asset tracking and monitoring solutions, we are proud to be in partnership with Unilode as they create the industry’s largest fleet of digitized ULDs.” says Adam Crossno, CEO of OnAsset. “With Unilode’s customer-centric focus on digital innovation, combined with OnAsset’s devices and cloud software, we are creating a new class of services that will help propel the aviation industry for years to come.”

“Unilode has committed to fully digitizing its fleet of ULDs to provide our customers the best solution in the industry,” said Benoit Dumont, CEO of Unilode Aviation Solutions. “We’re going to change how the industry thinks of the ULD, and we intend to show the world the power of industrial IoT solutions deployed at scale. OnAsset is a great partner and we have a deep innovation roadmap to explore together.”

Last July, Cathay Pacific worked with Unilode Aviation Solutions and OnAsset Intelligence to enable end-to-end shipment tracking with real-time information. Cathay Pacific has undertaken a proof of technology trial of Bluetooth low-energy (BLE) beacons in the Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal, the airline’s cargo hub in Hong Kong.

The trial, in harness with Unilode Aviation Solutions and OnAsset Intelligence, focused on the practicality of using these wireless devices in the multi-storey, concrete surroundings of the cargo terminal. Results have proven successful and have enabled the airline to prepare for a proof of concept with actual shipments.

Next-generation track and trace is a part of Cathay Pacific’s digital strategy, to help answer the industry’s need for greater transparency along the air freight journey. The ambition is to provide customers with real-time tracking of their cargo shipments with multi-dimensional readings. The use of BLE means data can be captured automatically.
