Identiv, a leading digital identification and security organization, was recently awarded the 2021 New Product of the Year by Security Today magazine, under the Internet of Things (IoT) category. Security Today honors the noteworthy technological achievements of innovators with products considered valuable in their ability to produce positive business and security outcomes.
Identiv’s uTrust Sense SyringeCheck was selected as the winning IoT product, thanks to its ability to help patients take medication correctly. It is the only intelligent injectable technology in existence today.
The NFC-enabled syringe dose monitoring device includes a front-end sensor that measures fill levels. The product also includes a companion app and alarm function to help patients follow the correct medication protocol. The syringe is equipped with a tap-and-go sensor read-out and is compatible with telemedicine and at-home compliance monitoring.
Healthcare providers are able to utilize uTrust Sense SyringeCheck to conduct trials in the home environment instead of a clinic, keeping healthcare workers safe and making the product more cost-efficient and highly convenient.
“With the continued, exponential growth of connected devices, there is increased demand for new ways to leverage RFID and NFC in MedTech, helping healthcare providers and patients ensure the safe and secure delivery of medicine,” Dr. Manfred Mueller, Identiv’s COO, said “Our intelligent syringe solution is designed to streamline the delivery of prescriptions while verifying individuals are safely taking their medicines as designed. We are honored to play an important role in keeping patients around the world safe, and healthcare and insurance providers more efficient with health management.”
Identiv will demo uTrust Sense SyringeCheck and the rest of their MedTech solutions (temperature tracking technology, vaccine cold chain monitoring, and pharmaceutical devices for the visually impaired) at RFID Journal LIVE! in Phoenix, Arizona, from September 26 – 28, 2021.
Despite the pandemic, businesses like Identiv are paving the way for creating more IoT solutions that greatly improve the sectors where they are used. We can expect to see more opportunities to open up in the next few months as organizations continue to innovate, and make people’s lives easier.
