HARMAN, Groupe PSA collaborate on cybersecurity offerings required for vehicle architecture

HARMAN International, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics focused on connected technologies for automotive, consumer and enterprise markets, and European automaker Groupe PSA announced Wednesday that the companies are working together to build a comprehensive cybersecurity strategy for Groupe PSA’s next-generation connected and autonomous vehicles platform.

The announcement marks a two-year joint work relationship between the two companies, spanning across multiple projects–from analyzing potential threats, through security design, to a feasibility study of advanced Intrusion Detection Systems for ADAS, autonomous and next-generation vehicle network architectures.

In a recent report, IHS Markit estimates that cybersecurity software and services revenues will exceed $250 million by 2020, with 20 percent originating from IDPS software revenues.

To enhance the driving experience for customers, the automotive industry is embracing the disruptively changing technology in the market.

HARMAN Connected Services (HCS) drives digital transformation in the connected world for industries and enterprises of all sizes. This is achieved through its cloud platform, HARMAN Ignite, and mobility and machine learning solutions. HCS enables automakers, auto suppliers and fleet owners to develop, deploy and manage secure and reliable connected vehicle services. HARMAN Remote Vehicle Updating Service (OTA) enables car manufacturers and Tier-1 suppliers to adapt to an evolving market landscape by securely managing all in-vehicle software components, including firmware, applications, configurations, settings and maps on head units, TCUs (Telematics Control Units) and ECUs (Electronic Control Units); anywhere and at any time – whether on the production line, at dealer lots or on car owners’ driveways.

The service helps auto OEMs and suppliers to capitalize on the full business potential of connected cars by enhancing driver experience with rapid deployment of value-added in-car services, minimizing costs through improved efficiency and a reduction in recalls.

HARMAN offers Automotive Engineering Services to global automotive ecosystem participants to develop connected car solutions and services and address these complex business challenges. HARMAN supports an OEM or supplier whether they choose to lay the foundation and build capabilities in-house or partner with a third party to offer more integrated services to their consumers.

Last June, NXP Semiconductors and HARMAN International, expand their collaboration to speed up time-to-market for connected car solutions. Connected car systems are key decision drivers for consumers accustomed to the rich user experiences they encounter in their everyday digital lives.

The resulting expectations have triggered a transformation in infotainment systems from bulky, purpose-built devices into sleek, connected, upgradeable and integrated platforms. The NXP and HARMAN partnership recognizes the broad implications of this new reality and its potential to impact almost every technology field and application.  

To tackle infotainment of the future, NXP and HARMAN will expand on a proven track record of delivering to customers and a strong history of collaboration in emerging technology areas, including over-the-air updates, secure V2X communication and software-defined radio. The two companies will further expand their partnership in technologies supporting the connected in-car experience, including tuners, digital signal processors, amplifiers and applications processors.

As a customer for NXP’s latest generation of NXP infotainment solutions, HARMAN will work with NXP on pre-development work, including co-writing the product specs, the exchange of early samples and continuing to demonstrate new vehicle concepts with partners such as Rinspeed.
