Globetouch, CloudMinds partner to deliver connectivity for robots, other artificial intelligence initiatives

Globetouch and CloudMinds Technology announced on Thursday a partnership to provide connectivity for robots and other artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives. Both companies are making the announcement during Mobile World Congress Americas 2017, a conference and expo bringing together industry leaders to meet and explore new business models in mobile technology.

Together, the companies will develop cloud-based applications and platforms that help control robots with rapid motions, leading to enhanced implications for development of autonomous driving, factory robots, shipping port sorting robots and other AI initiatives.

Globetouch offers global connectivity services for the connected car and the IoT. By building an ecosystem of operators with a next generation control center, Globetouch provides car manufacturers and IoT enterprises a single interface to reach a global footprint. Globetouch backers include Verizon Ventures, CK Hutchison Holdings Limited, Digicel and NTT DoCoMo, 263 China, and Qihoo 360.

CloudMinds Technology is a developer and operator of cloud robots that makes robots and devices smarter by providing secure, high-performance and low-latency private networks that connect robots to a cloud platform with endless AI capabilities. CloudMinds is backed by SoftBank, Foxconn, Keystone Venture and Walden International. CloudMinds has R&D and operations in Santa Clara, California, Beijing, China and Tokyo, Japan.

Riccardo DiBlasio, CEO of Globetouch Inc., commented: “This partnership is a major step forward for both Globetouch and the AI and IoT communities in general. Working with CloudMinds, we will provide full connectivity for many innovative and advanced robotics initiatives that require the ability to control rapid motions.”

“CloudMinds is the first cloud robot operator focusing on delivering secure networks and cloud-hosted Artificial Intelligence for robotic services,” said Bill Huang, founder and CEO of CloudMinds Technology. “Globetouch is our key roaming and mobile connectivity provider enabling us to offer services at a global scale.”

Globetouch also announced in June a partnership with Virtuosys to co-develop the next generation of cloud connected edge computing devices and applications. Together, the companies will develop a software SIM (soft Sim) cellular connected and cloud-managed edge computing device and edge apps, supporting verticals such as connected vehicles, autonomous driving and retail payments.

The resulting innovation will be the initial international out of box cellular connectivity solution offering the soft SIM function, as well as edge analytics in a secure virtualized application environment with cloud app store and intelligence.

Globetouch also announced earlier this year acquisition of IoT solutions provider Teramatrix Technologies Ltd. Globetouch will leverage and integrate the Teramatrix xFusion platform to create high value IoT applications that support connected cars, autonomous driving, predictive maintenance and edge intelligence.

The acquisition complements Globetouch’s existing global connectivity suite and IoT platform which manages the intersection of big data, machine learning and autonomous systems for some of the world’s largest enterprise customers. The addition provides value for both Globetouch and Teramatrix customers and their IoT eco-system partners.
